Since my last blog we have had 3 pairs competitions, which were all eagerly contested and keenly fought out and won with amazing scores.
The international pairs were won by Ben & Gary Player, with Sabine & Tomas Wiedenbruch second, Tomas and Sabine were nominated to represent Club P.D.R. at the national finals. The finals were over 2 days, our pair put up a splendid show finishing 4th, 2 points behind the winners. Congratulations to you both for an excellent performance.
The August pairs produced the highest scores in any competition so far this year, Denise Kelleher & Alan Westhead beating Kay Cottrell & John Kelleher on count back, both shooting 49 points.
The Club Pairs Champions for 2014 are Peter Bedford & Chris Teixeira with Henrique Carvalhão & Octávio Marcelino taking the nett prize.
July O.O.M. was won by Jorge Figueiredo with an excellent 38 pts.
The Club Championship attracted 60 entrants and as per normal was stroke play over 2 days, the worthy winners and club champions for 2014 are ladies, for the second year, Nathalie Peeters and back on the podium and Men’s Champion, Geoff Newton, congratulations to both of you.
The nett winners were ladies Audrey Rowley and men Dag Arvidson, well done.
The Captain’s & Vice Captain’s prize on July 30th drew an amazing entry of 89 players, so it was going to need an exceptional score to secure the prizes. Indeed we had great scoring on the day with Angelina Struve pipping Joaquin Teixeira on the back 9, both on 42 points. The vice captain prize, awarded to the best gross, was also eagerly contested with Carl Bolus prevailing on 1 over gross.
The mobile Irish bar, with Susan acting as bar-maid, was well supported and we raised 655.00 €, thank you to everybody for your generous donations, the dearest drinks in PDR.
The captain’s charity balance now stands at just under 3,000, special thanks to Sue de Wit & Katarina Asberg who sponsored prizes for Friday fun golf. A big thank you also to Phil Thomas who has pledged all funds raised in next year’s Pro-Am to the Captain’s charity, a great gesture from a fine gentleman who has always been a friend to PDR.
We have 2 Atlantic cup matches in September, away to Tróia on the 13th and a home game against Quinta do Peru on the 20th, once again I would encourage everyone to put their name forward for selection.
The next O.O.M. is on the 30th of August and it is also the final chance to qualify for the club matchplay for 2014/15.
The draw for the matchplay will be made on the 13th of September.
September Pairs competition is on September 6th.
Independence or not, we will have our first Scottish day on September 19th, a sterling committee of stern Scots have been assembled by Alison Boden, so kilts ready for what should be a terrific day.
Finally, 2 housekeeping matters, the Wednesday roll-up is a open draw, members CANNOT pre-select their fourball, slow play, a fourball should take no longer than 4 hours 40 minutes, please be aware of your time on the course and show courtesy and awareness to other players.
Please, take a look at some of the photos from the Captain’s Day in July.
