What a wonderful month to go out on!
Thank you so much to the Scandinavian Team, led by Rune and Gerd. The Scandinavian Invitational transformed our Order of Merit Competition into such a special event. The planning and generosity was so appreciated by all 72 participants. Thank you also to Francisco for your generous donation.
Congratulations to Beverley Bannister, the well-deserved trophy winner with 46 points! We are very happy to welcome Beverley to the golf section, a great way to start your golfing career. Pedro and his team did a great job with the BBQ and table decorations.
I have so many highlights and happy memories of the last 15 months.
When John first asked me to his Vice Captain my first reaction was fear, ‘I’m not up to that, it’s a huge responsibility…’ However with Steve’s encouragement, I said yes.I do like a challenge but every time I looked at the big picture I went cold… so I decided on one thing that was important to me, and just focused on that goal. My mantra was ‘inclusive’. If I could make as many people as possible feel welcome and included, then we are all happy.
I have so enjoyed working/golfing/socialising with the lovely members of Clube de Golfe PDR, you have all made being Captain such an easy job.
I have had a huge amount of support from 2 very important men. ‘First Man’ Steve. He has been such a calming influence, sounding board, patient listener and happy to fit his life around my uncertain hours. Vincent has been the best ever Vice Captain, so hardworking, steady and supportive. He is going to be a great Captain.
We are a small committee but a great team. Maria Joao has been a huge help, and also fun to work with. Joy has gone from strength to strength. She is now a totally confident, professional secretary and Friday Fun coordinator.John is our wonderful Treasurer. He somehow made sense of my petty cash book, and always presents us with neat, tidy, accurate accounts.Best wishes John in your new role as Vice Captain!
Our committee can only be 5, but we are very happy that Rune Lundberg has joined us as a non voting member. He was the chief coordinator for the Scandinavian Invitational, his enthusiasm and organisational skills delivered a great day. Welcome Rune.
Francisco and Beltico have been hugely supportive in helping us to bring in the changes that ensure the smooth running of the club. So much happens in the background, the reception team quietly produce draws, results, vouchers – always under pressure of time, late changes… and they always stay calm. So a big thank you to Vanda and the team!
Marta must have a special mention! She changed my life from day 1 of arriving, write a blog? No problem! Photos? The list is endless but it’s a pleasure working with someone whose answer is always, ‘we can do that’. Silvino and his team are wonderful, they have been so helpful and cheery, whatever the weather. Nothing is too much trouble for them, thank you all.
Pedro and his team keep the course in marvellous condition, again whatever the weather or regardless of how busy it is. I would like to say a big thank you to Pedro and Patricia and team, they always do their very best to accommodate our demands. They have been a pleasure to work with – I don’t know how they stay so calm under pressure!
Francisco has been such a joy to work with, cheery, positive, encouraging and wise. I know I have surprised him a few times, but he’s taken it all in his stride. PDR has never seen a Captains Day buggy like it!
Another part of this job that I have really enjoyed is the Captain/Pro matches. We have had such fun – easy for me to say playing with Mark! We won 7, halved 2, and lost 4. Dave and Barbara Garrett played wonderful golf and we lost 4/3. Congrats to them, they win the trophy for best winners. (They just edged ahead of the 1st Man and Vice Captain…) Thank you Mark also for always being available to check rules and queries with.
The real highlight I shall look back on, what a pleasure to meet and work with all you members – fun, generous people. Your support and enthusiasm has made being Captain easy.
Thank you for supporting my charity, Aconchego. They are overwhelmed by the money we have raised. Next week I shall handover the final amount raised from the Cap/Pro games, €320. This includes a donation from Steve Marsh who couldn’t play but had a side bet! So the grand total for the year is a huge,€11.030! This is a fantastic total, thank you so much.
Thank you for making my term as Captain so enjoyable. Now I am looking forward to supporting Captain Vincent. Congratulations Vincent, you are going to have a great year. If you see me on the driving range it’s because I’m in training for my first Cap/Pro match…
