Trust everyone had a wonderful Easter, the fairways here where certainly packed and for the most part we enjoyed good weather.

St. Patrick’s was a great success, 83 played and 95 sat down to dinner on site at the Marriott. Highlight of the evening was the entertainment provided by the Bill Ahern Band with guest star Diogo Bem.

The St Patrick’s trophy was won by John Morton with an excellent score.

Golf Matters

Great month for the Fjarem’s, Hans & Lena capturing the March pairs, while Lena kept her good run of form going with a comfortable win in the March members prize.

Atlantic trophy, a 4-1 defeat away to Penha Longa was not the start we hoped for, however, we have 2 more matches in May. Next up is away to Troia on the 2nd May (to be confirmed) and a home game against Penha Longa on the 17th of May.

Congratulations to Steve Simpson & Paulo Arrujo on reaching the club matchplay final.

A reminder to all players, we have two national competitions coming up, The Mid-Amateur in Porto on the last weekend in May with the Seniors the following weekend in Aroiera.

Pro/Captain challenge, next up are the Garratt’s, Barbara & Dave followed by Grahame & Elaine Lamb. We have one date left in May, if your up to the challenge we are waiting.

Club Finances

Our finances are in a healthy state and are well marshaled by our vice-captain, John Mooney. We have replaced all club championship trophies, singles and pairs with new trophies. Monthly pairs “sea horse” trophies up to December 2015 have been purchased.

The committee have granted 150 euro to St Patrick’s & St. George day entertainment program.

St. George’s Day – 22nd April

(I am aware we are celebrating it a day early) I asked Colin Potter if he would like to organize St George’s day some months ago. As a proud English man he accepted the invitation with a stiff upper lip. He wisely recruited Caroline Simpson to assist him and together they have promised to provide a memorable night for us.

The program is, 18 hole golf event in the afternoon followed by a traditional English meal of fish & chips in the Marriott, starting at 7.30 p.m.

Entertainment after the dinner. Cost per person 35 euro, guests are welcome, non golfers can be invited for the evening, cost 35 euro.

Barbara & Colin have very kindly sponsored the golf prizes. Caroline is having a raffle on the evening, if anyone wishes to donate a prize can you please leave same at golf reception or give to me.

Are you Swedes taking notes for Sweden day!?

Finally, I would like to offer condolences on behalf of all the members to the family of Simon Morrell. Simon was a member of PDR and is fondly remembered by the golf reception staff. He died on his home golf course, enjoying a round of golf with friends.

Also I would like to acknowledge the passing of former Captain & member Tito da Silva, may they rest in peace.
